October 13 Bible Study:  Chapter 28 It Takes Time
Lesson taught by Assistant Pastor Porter

Points to Ponder

>There are no shortcuts to maturity.  Spiritual growth, like physical growth, takes
    time.
>Spiritual maturity is being like Christ
>Perfection in the Bible means maturity.  Philippians 3:12; 2 Corinthians 7:1;
    Hebrews 6:1
>Signs of immaturity. 1 Corinthians 3:1-4; Ephesians 4:14; Hebrews 5:11-14
>Evidence of maturity. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7; Hebrews 5:14; James 1:2-4

I. Why does it take so long?
    a.       We are slow learners
    b.      We have a lot to unlearn Romans 13:12-14; Ephesians 4:22-24;
             Colossians 3:7-14
    c.       We are afraid to humbly face the truth about ourselves
    d.      Growth is often painful and scary
             >Every change involves a loss of some kind.
    e.      Habits take time to develop

II. Dont get in a hurry.
    a.       Believe God is working in your life even when you dont feel it
    b.      Keep a notebook or journal of lessons learned
    c.       Be patient with God and with yourself
            >God will use your entire lifetime to prepare you for your role in eternity.
    d.      Dont get discouraged            Habakkuk 2:2-3

Question to Consider:  In what area of my spiritual growth do I need to be more
                                            patient and persistent?
