Lesson taught from Chapters 36 & 37 of the Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren
Chapter 36: Made For A Mission
Points to Ponder:
Mission comes from the Latin word for “sending”.
Why are our missions so important?
I. Your mission is a continuation Jesus’ mission on earth.
Ø Jesus calls us not only to come to him, but to go for him.
Ø The Great Commission was given to every follower of Jesus, not to pastors and missionaries alone.
Ø You are the only Christian some people will ever know, and your mission is to share Jesus with them.
II. Your mission is a wonderful privilege.
Ø Your mission involved two great privileges: working with God and representing him
III. Telling others how they can have eternal life is the greatest thing you can do for them.
Ø We have the greatest news in the world, and sharing it is the greatest kindness you can show to anyone.
IV. Your mission has eternal significance.
Ø The consequences of your mission will last forever; the consequences of your job will not.
Ø The clock is ticking down on your life mission, so don’t delay another day
Ø God wants you to share the Good News where you are
V. Your mission gives your life meaning.
Ø If you fail to fulfill your God-given mission on earth, you will have wasted the life God gave you.
VI. God’s timetable for history’s conclusion is connected to the completion of our commission.
Ø What we do know for sure is this: Jesus will not return until everyone God want to hear the Good News has heard it.
Ø It is easy to get distracted; because Satan would rather have you do anything besides your faith.
Chapter 37: Sharing your Live Message
Points to Ponder:
I. Your Life Message includes your testimony
Ø Your testimony is the story of how Christ has made a difference in your life.
Ø Shared stories build a relational bridge that Jesus can walk across from your heart to theirs
Ø A personal testimony consists of:
O What my life was like before I met Jesus
O How I realized I needed Jesus
O How I committed my life to Jesus
O The difference Jesus has made in my life
II. Your Life Message includes your life lessons
Ø Your life message is the truths that God has taught you from experiences with him
Ø These are lessons and insights you have learned about God, relationships, problems, temptations, and other aspects of life.
III. Your Life Message includes sharing your godly passions
Ø Your godly passions are the issues God shaped you to care abut most
Ø God gives some people a godly passion to champion a cause
Ø God gives us different passions so that everything he wants done in the world will get done
IV. Your Life Message includes the Good News
Ø The Good News is the message of salvation through Jesus Christ
Ø We must care about unbelievers because God does
Is anyone going to be in heaven because of you?
