April 18:� The Blessed Ones:� The Poor in Spirit

����������� Luke 6:20; Matthew 5:3

�

����������� The poor in spirit are often ridiculed and called weak.� Yet Jesus assures them that they are divinely blessed and inheritors of the kingdom of God.� The poor in spirit are those who acknowledge their helplessness and rely on God�s grace to see them through.

����������� In Luke 6:20, Jesus speaks to His disciples and says, �Blessed be ye poor: for yours is the kingdom of God�.� He was not speaking of people who are poor because of laziness, sickness, or reasons beyond their control.� Jesus was speaking to followers who chose to be poor in order to share the Gospel with others.

����������� God desires us to be grateful for that which He has blessed us with on earth.� We are to seek the riches of His kingdom in heaven and not the riches of the world.� To whom much has been given, much is required.� We must acquaint this passage with our knowledge of the Word of God.� But would this not be true of all things?� God will not neglect the sick and poor.� He wants His children, whom He has already richly blessed, to be blessings to those less fortunate.
