June 13 Mission Lesson: The Blessed Ones: Those Who Suffer for Jesus Sake
Matthew 5:11-12; Luke 6:22-23; Romans 12:19-21
Suffering Christians are to rejoice because they are in good company. Like Jesus and the prophets who came before and after Him, we also will suffer. Jesus blesses those who suffer from evil because they love and follow Him. Like Jesus, we are never to return evil for evil, but we are to repay evil with good.
Jesus is more aware than anyone that following the way of the Lord can bring about persecution. When nonbelievers of the Word ridicule and persecute you for following Jesus, He is heartbroken and feels your pain. He intercedes on your behalf to soften your suffering. Those curses thrust upon you turn into blessings from God. Rejoice and be glad because your reward in heaven will be great. While God does not wish for any of His children to suffer for His sake, He is exceedingly glad when our faith is not shaken.
Do not pray for vengeance on those who do not understand the Christian way of life. Pray and intercede on their behalf that God will open their hearts and have mercy on them.
