July 3, 2005 Sermon: Saints Who Are Willing To Stand

Scripture:  Ezekiel 22: 30-31

In the midst of so much sin that is all around us, God is looking for saints who are willing to stand.  Stand when everyone else is sitting down, stand doing what is right.  God is looking for some saints to stand in the gap for their children; God is looking for some saints to live right in front of their community.  God is looking for saints, not ain'ts.  God is looking for saints, not those that put on a show on Sunday and are living in hell on Monday. 

 

The truth of the matter is you would not be sitting here today if somebody hand not stood in the gap for you.  Some Momma and some Daddy said �I�m going to stand here because my son or my daughter needs some grace and some mercy�.  Any saints here this morning not running down our young men?  Even if they are standing on the corner selling drugs or anything they can get their hands on � you need to be saints and pray for them.

 

God said if he could find just one man, he would hold back.  Israel messed up, but God was looking for one man in Israel, in Jerusalem, one mane in Wynne Community, one woman at New Hope, one child at New Hope to stand for righteousness.  The text said �but He found none�.  Isn�t it sad that God cannot find one that cares about this community?

 

Satisfaction means to be set apart, renewing of your mind, saying you are not going to do what others are doing.  You can�t tell your child not to sell dope if your refrigerator is full of Schlitz or Miller.  You can�t tell your child something if you just cussed out your neighbor.  God is looking for some saints that live right and can lead your community.  God is looking for some saints to heed the call of service.  But we want everybody to serve us and we don�t want to serve anybody.

 

Are there any saints in the house who will heed the call of sanctification?  Are there any saints in the house who will heed the call of service?  Are there any saints in the house that will heed the call of salvation? 

 

There is a servant, a Savior who pleaded our case over 2,000 years ago.  I�m glad when Momma couldn�t stand, He was there.  I�m glad when Daddy wasn�t there, He was there.  I�m glad when the church wasn�t there, He was there.  I�m glad I have a Savior when my friends walk away and won�t lift me up or pray for me.  I�m glad I have a Savior that was standing by my side that thought I was worth it.  He�s standing in the gap for an old wretch like me and you.  I�m glad I know a Savior who walks with me, who talks with me, who gives me joy in the midnight hour, who gives me joy when I�m down.

 

Darts will be thrown at you; rocks will be thrown at you.  Say what you want to, but the only reason destruction has not come on this community is because this church has stood in the gap for you.  Some Momma and Daddy have stood in the gap for their children.
