June 6 Mission Lesson: The Blessed Ones: Those Persecuted for Righteousness’ Sake
Matthew 5:10; Luke 6:22-23
Living for God and standing up for what is right are not always the popular things to do. But God stands for those who stand for what is right and promises them a place in His kingdom.
You will find some of these people in the church and among community leaders. These are people who oftentimes fight to improve our way of life. They oppose nonbelievers, the judicial system, and many other adversaries who seek to persecute and oppress God’s people. They battle for better healthcare and childcare and equal taxation for everyone. Many of them suffer for trying to do the right thing.
Just like Jesus suffered and was persecuted for righteousness’ sake, the cycle continues. And God continues as well to bless those who stand for those unable to stand for themselves. But the motive for any stance should be one of love; otherwise the most heroic sacrifices are performed in vain.
