August 22 Sermon: Guard Your Tongue
Scripture: Proverbs 21:23
Sermon by Pastor Williams
Because some of us dont guard our tongues, we have been demoted from friendships. As a mature Christian, we have to learn what to say and how to say it. We have to be careful because we do not know how we might destroy someone. We need to learn how to control the tongue.
You can put a rein in a horse moth to make him turn right or left, a steering wheel directs a 7,500 pound car, but something as little as a tongue we cannot control. Be careful and guard your tongue to protect your reputation. Many of us do no care about our reputation because of the way we live. Many have destroyed our own lives because we do not know how to button it up. I know its wrong to judge each other because the Bible teaches it, but many people will judge you based on what you say and how you say it.
Learn how to preserve friendships and relationships by learning to guard your tongue. Many friendships and relationships were destroyed by you saying something you had no business saying. The tongue is not independent; it says whats in your heart or whats on your mind. Many of us thank w have the right to say what we want to say. I know when we see sin we need to speak out against it, but we need to be careful how we say it. Be like Jesus, He used kind words to get His point across.
Guard your tongue because God want to use our tongues for perpetual praise. Guard your tongues. Praise Him. Use your tongue to lift up Jesus, in your homes, on your jobs, in your communities. When you are in trouble and feel like throwing in the towel, I dare you to say thank you Lord. Use your tongue not to tear down but to lift up Jesus.
Let His praises continually come out of your mouth.
