October 10 Mission Lesson: The Sermon on the Mount
Scripture: Matthew 5-8
The Sermon on the Mount emphasizes the theme of proper relationships with God and with one another. It sets the standards for Christians to live by and emphasizes the proper worship of God by treating others as special as God treats us.
Realizing the multitude of people there to hear the Word of God, Jesus explained Gods instructions for the life of a Christian. Jesus poured out blessings on every person present. He blessed the poor in spirit, the mournful, the persecuted, the afflicted. He blessed those hungry in spirit and the faithful. He taught them the rules for brotherly love and the showing of mercy. His message was the way of life that Jesus Himself walked in, and it offered promise and hope in everlasting life. Jesus modeled the life that a Christian should follow as He outlined instructions one by one in these commandments. He lived the life He preached.
The instructions from the sermon were great in number, but so are the promises of God. Yet we turn from Him and break our covenant. Even then, He continues to restore us back to Him.
