October 31 Mission Lesson: The Law of Faith

Posted on Sun, Oct 31, 2004

The Womenís Mission meets the third Wednesday of the month at 7:30 PM.  This section contains the weekly lessons taken from the Womanís Home & Foreign Mission Society 2004 Guide and Program Book.  Lessons are added each week for you to study in preparation for the meetings.

October 31 Mission Lesson: The Law of Faith
Scripture: Romans 3:18-28

Jesus recognized early in the book of Romans that many people had little faith in Godís law.  Sin continued to separate humanity from God.  Jesus, sent by God, had come to restore humanityís relationship with the Father by living a life of perfect obedience.
Paulís heart was burdened at the realization of the peopleís unrighteousness.  Their ways were evil and deceitful, and no one feared God.  Even though every person was not guilty of ever sin, everyone was capable.  Everyone was capable of hate or foul language, adultery, murder, and much more.  Every sin imaginable was committed then, just as it is now.
These sins had to be brought to reality for some.  What good does it do us to know righteousness if we cannot recognize unrighteousness?  We must learn what displeases the Father so we will not displease Him.
Faith is no something we earn but something we accept.  Acceptance of Godís promise of salvation also means we accept in faith that God will keep His promises.  Like the acceptance of vows taken between a husband and wife, we accept in faith the promises and vows we make with God.  The difference is that god never breaks His vows.
